Domestic violence
Men often use physical violence to reinforce their power over women. Not only does this effect their life emotionally, it prevents them from participating in their community and the wider society. This forces them to live in fear. Acts of violence against women causes more death and disability than cancer, malaria and trafic accidents.
It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by a partner, carer, or family member to control, dominate or forces them into fear. It doesn’t have to be physical abuse. It can be emotional, psychological, financial or other types of abuse.Violence keeps poor women from having a successful or even happy future. This is unfair for the women who have to experience this horrible life torture. It can affect anyone in the community, gender, race, age, culture, religion, disability or location.
Anyone in immediate danger should call the police onTriple Zero (000).
